M I C H A E L  A M B R O S E

Born in Brisbane, Queensland, Michael Ambrose, fourth generation Australian, studied at the Queensland College of Art, 3 years full-time, where he completed his course in Commercial Illustration and Design.

Throughout most of his working life, Michael has been involved in the advertising industry, but he has a passion for fine art as well. He paints in mixed media to create his unique style, applying acrylics using an air-brush and fine detail brushwork.

Michael's adventurous spirit led him to Hollywood, USA, where he worked under Carl Barks (creator of Uncle Scrooge and Donald Duck) on a Walt Disney Limited Edition book - entitled "The Life and Times of Uncle Scrooge McDuck". This project lasted twelve months. A wealth of experience was gained from this prestigious project.

Michael not only enjoys painting his own artworks but also enjoys being involved in commercial projects. His talents in design and painting has led him to work on many different projects over the past 27 years, including drawing up the design 'Lily Pond' for John Olson (artist) for the largest mosaic floor in the southern hemisphere - Brisbane Convention Centre Foyer. Michael also won the tender for a three year Government project - painting the ornate ceiling panels for the 20 carriage luxurious five star Heritage train, "The Great South Pacific Express", launched by The Queensland Rail and The Orient Express.

Michael painted the original coat of arms for the Bond University. He also painted the eight coat of arms, heraldry collection for the Australia pavillion in the World expo, Tsukuba, Japan. This was produced in collaboration with Michael Bryce Design.

Michael has produced limited edition prints of some of his most favourite works - marine, birdlife and natural history images. One of these images being an original painted for The World Humpback Whale Symposium, held at The Queensland Museum.

Ambrose originals and prints are on display in private and corporate collections in Australia and abroad. His work is displayed in The National Geographic Society Headquarters, and the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C.

Recently, Michael has been working with mosaics where he created a large mosaic water feature by the pool of the new Grand Golf Course Residential Club House here on the Gold Coast. He also painted the large mural with a golf theme - Pebble Beach USA. This will be featured in the next Australian Artist magazine.

At present he has just finished five large mosaic footprints (1 1/2 metres long and 1/2 metre wide) which was in the Swell Exhibition at Currumbin Beach, making an impressive site.
